Session TitleGovernment relations and policy change: the importance of advocacy for nursing 
Session DescriptionThe session will provide an overview of what is government relations, advocacy and lobbying. We will provide an example of a government relations campaign (MAID) and also discuss the importance and how nurses can be advocates for policy change. 

Speaker Biography: Lucas is ainternational government relations expert with over 8 years of experience in the non-profit and private sectors. He has represented organizations in a range of different industries including Health, IT, Innovation, Telecom, International Trade, Defense, Education, and Arts & Culture. Currently, Lucas oversees the government relations portfolio at the Canadian Nurses Association. He holds an MBA in Government Relations and a master’s degree in Political Management. Lucas also has meaningful leadership and volunteer experience. He serves as a board member of the Government Relations Institute of Canada (GRIC) and he volunteers with the Canadian Advocacy Network to help charities and not-for-profits in their advocacy efforts. He has also served as a board member of the Brazilian Government Relations Association.
